BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Pioneers closed the game on a 13-6 run to help the LIU Post women's basketball team hold off Holy Family University, 67-63 in a non-conference matchup inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Redshirt-junior Robyn Francis tallied five points during the final six minutes, while classmate Mikaiya Moore and senior Shannon Doyle chipped in five apiece to help the Pioneers pull away late to improve to 6-1 on the season. Graduate student Sasha Patterson posted her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead LIU Post, while Moore totaled 13 points. Redshirt-junior Taylah Hudson led the Green and Gold with six assists.

The Pioneers and Tigers combined to shoot 50-percent from the field during the opening 10 minutes and the even playing showed on the scoreboard as the two sides found themselves level at 20-20 at the first quarter break. The Pioneers continued to shoot well during the second quarter, but despite holding Holy Family to just 5-of-16 from the field, the Tigers took a one-point lead (34-33) into the locker room at halftime.

The back-and-forth action continued during the third quarter, as LIU Post took the largest lead of the period, 43-38, when freshman Ja'Lyn Armstrong knocked down a pull-up jump shot from the middle of the key with 6:04 remaining. Holy Family closed the stanza on a 9-3 burst to retake the lead, 51-48, entering the final quarter. Patterson single-handedly changed momentum for the Pioneers early in the fourth, scoring the first six points of the frame and hauling in two rebounds during the stretch. The Tigers would not go away, however, and retook the lead at 57-56 with 6:20 remaining.

Doyle sparked a big run by the Green and Gold with four points over the next five minutes, while Francis knocked down a three-point field goal from the top of the key for one of just two made three-pointers by the Pioneers during the contest. The Pioneers eventually took a 63-57 lead after nine unanswered points with less than two minutes to play. Moore and Francis went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line late in the game to hold off the Tigers in the team's final non-conference tune-up before East Coast Conference play begins next week.

The Pioneers will host Molloy College on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 5:00 p.m. as the final game of a six-game home stand inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
