BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season in a matchup with the reigning East Region champion Stonehill College Skyhawks, 66-47 inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Sunday, Nov. 25.
It was a struggle offensively from the second quarter on, as the Pioneers shot just 30-percent from the field for the game after cashing in on seven of their 16 attempts (43.8%) during the opening 10 minutes. The Skyhawks held a 40-34 edge on the glass, though LIU Post grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to just 11 for Stonehill. The Skyhawks did a great job of limiting the Green and Gold from beyond the arc, holding LIU Post to just 1-of-17 shooting from three-point territory.

Robyn Francis led LIU Post with 11 points on 3-of-8 shooting while also leading the Pioneers with three assists and five steals. Graduate student
Sasha Patterson also netted a double-figure scoring output, depositing 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Junior
Dominique Williams collected a team-high seven rebounds in just 19 minutes of action off the bench.
Despite being tied (8-8) with 3:20 remaining in the first quarter, the Pioneers closed the stanza on a 9-3 run after forcing two Stonehill turnovers. Williams gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the day when she banked in a layup with two seconds remaining to put LIU Post ahead 16-11 at the first intermission. It was all Stonehill to open the second quarter, using an 18-1 run over the first eight minutes to take a 14-point lead (33-19). A three-pointer at the halftime buzzer by Kayla Raymond gave the Skyhawks a 36-23 cushion heading into the second half.
The struggles continued in the second half as Stonehill stretched the lead to as many as 20 points during the third period and coasted to the final buzzer to improve to 5-1 on the season. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 4-1 with two more non-conference games on the docket leading into East Coast Conference play on Dec. 5.
The first of those two non-conference tilts take place inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Thursday, Nov. 29 when the Pioneers host Bloomfield College at 5:00 p.m.
