BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – A second-consecutive stellar performance by senior guard
Shannon Doyle paced the LIU Post women's basketball team to an 88-67 victory against Caldwell University inside the Pratt Recreation Center on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Doyle flirted with a triple-double for the second-straight game, finishing with a team-high 20 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Graduate student
Sasha Patterson posted 17 points in just 15 minutes, including 14 points during the second half. Junior
Mikaiya Moore chipped in 13 points as the LIU Post forwards combined for 46 total points. The Green and Gold shot 50-percent (11-of-22) from beyond the three-point line, including a 5-of-8 effort by Doyle.
LIU Post outmatched Caldwell despite nearly identical rebounding and turnover numbers. The Pioneers scored 25 points off Cougar turnovers and shot a season-best .564 from the field, its second-highest shooting percentage in the past 10 seasons (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2017-18).
Leading by eight points (39-31) late in the second quarter, the Pioneers used an 11-2 burst on 4-of-4 shooting to jump out to a 48-33 lead with just over one-minute remaining in the period. A late bucket by the Cougars made it a 13-point game at the half. The Cougars could never recover from the run and was unable to chip the deficit back to single-digits the rest of the way. LIU Post eventually stretched the lead to 22 points (86-64) when senior
Kyla Formey knocked down a three-point field goal from the left wing with two minutes remaining and coasted to the 4-0 start for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The Pioneers will go for the best start in program history when they host the fourth-ranked team in the East Region in Stonehill College on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
