Football's Streater Tabbed as ESPN College Football Play of the Week

BRISTOL, Conn. – An outstanding one-handed interception by sophomore defensive back Nazir Streater during the LIU Post football team's 41-39 victory at Shippensburg University has gained national attention.

Streater was featured prominently on ESPN's Sportscenter Sunday morning, featured on several sections of the program including "Gimme That!", "Small Schools, Big Plays", and came in at No. 2 on the Top 10 Plays.

Most recently, Streater's acrobatic play earned recognition as college football's play of the week, taking the top spot on ESPN College Football's Top 10 Plays of Week Six. The top 10 list encompasses all of college football, including Divisions I, II, and III, and this week's highlight reel included plays from No. 1-ranked University of Alabama, University of Georgia, and UCLA. This remarkable play was featured on the heels of last week's major announcement that the University would be unifying its athletic program and competing in all sports at the NCAA Division I level.

Athletics plays an important role in bringing people together and promoting educational values. As we elevate the LIU brand nationally through academic excellence and world-class research, our athletics program will unite our entire community and compete at the highest levels, increasing the University's visibility and ultimately create a broader platform to tell the "One LIU" story.

In order to honor LIU's strong tradition of athletic excellence, the new program will combine the traditional colors of both campuses into a unified blue and gold. And in the coming weeks, students and alumni will help choose the new mascot for the unified program.

Streater and the rest of the Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium when they host Saint Anselm College on Homecoming with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
