BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – A 2-0 deficit at halftime could not prevent the LIU Post field hockey team from prevailing over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon as a late goal by senior
Emily Miller saw the Pioneers earn a 3-2 victory over the Penmen at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The win moved LIU Post to 5-1 all-time against Southern New Hampshire, 6-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Northeast-10.
Along with Miller, senior
Tarryn Morris and sophomore
Sammy Bell both scored goals. Miller and freshman
Emma Braeckmans each had an assist and sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Vellis finished with five saves.
As a team the Pioneers out-shot the Penmen 19-9 including 13 shots on goal to 9. LIU Post also held a 19-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Southern New Hampshire got on the scoreboard first at 12:18 and again at 12:53; they went into the half with a 2-0 lead.
At 41:27 LIU Post scored its first goal of the game as Morris spun around a defender on the left side of the net, rocketed the ball past the goalkeeper and put the ball in the top right corner of the net.
Bell leveled the score 2-2 at 59:09 after receiving a pass from Miller at the top of the circle; Miller then scored the game-winning goal, her 11
th of the season, at 68:40 after receiving an assist from Braeckmans.
