MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced Monday that sophomore defensive back
Nazir Streater and redshirt-freshman
Jonathan DeBique as the league's Defensive and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Streater's outstanding performance in the secondary earns him his third-consecutive Defensive Player of the Week award, while DeBique garnered recognition for the first time during his career.
The LIU Post defense held Pace University to zero pass completions during a 41-6 victory on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Streater's play was a big reason for the shutdown effort. The Palmyra, N.J. native intercepted Setters' quarterback Brandon Simmons twice during the win, giving him a league-best six interceptions on the season. Streater currently ranks second in the nation in interceptions, trailing only Daryus Skinner of Winston-Salem State University for the top spot.
On the offensive side of the ball, DeBique led LIU Post with 48 rushing yards on 11 carries against Pace, scoring his second touchdown of the season in the process. DeBique punched in a six-yard run during the fourth quarter for the Green and Gold's fifth touchdown of the day.
LIU Post will put its 12-game win streak on the line on Saturday, Oct. 27 when it travels to Assumption College to take on the Greyhounds as part of the NCAA Division II Showcase. The rivalry-game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app with kickoff scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
