WORCESTER, Mass. - Despite holding a 2-0 lead with nine minutes left to play, the third-ranked LIU Post field hockey team fell, 2-3, at Assumption in conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Multi-Sport Stadium.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the first half as the scoreboard remained at 0-0 heading into the intermission.
Forwards
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) and
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) notched scores for the Pioneers (6-1, 2-1 NE10) in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Greyhounds (4-5, 2-2 NE10) battled back knotting the score with less than four minutes to play.
With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the contest went into golden-goal overtime. It only took 49 seconds for Assumption's Allison Sheahan to beat the green and gold defender for the game-winner on the near side of the cage.
The Pioneers held an advantage in shots (16-7) and shots on goal (11-5), while also edging out the Greyhounds in penalty corners (10-5).
LIU Post returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) when it takes a trip to Rindge, N.H. for a conference matchup against Franklin Pierce scheduled to start at noon.
