BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - With 29 seconds left to play, senior forward Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) drilled a penalty stroke into the lower left corner of the cage to lift the fourth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi on Wednesday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Pioneers (5-0, 2-0 NE10) held a 2-0 advantage at the conclusion of the first half as senior forward Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had a hand in each of the first two markers. Lopresti, along with freshman midfielder Sammy Bell (Milngavie, Glasgow, United Kingdom), assisted on the first goal of the game which was sunk by junior forward Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) just under six minutes into play.

Lopresti added an unassisted tally in the 18th minute to extend the green and gold's lead to 2-0.

Adelphi (1-5, 0-2 NE10) took control in the second half, scoring three goals in an 11-minute span to knot the score at 3-3 at 50:01.  Junior forward Emily Power was the driving force behind these three scores as she registered the first two goals and added an assist on the third marker.  During that span, Miller added her second tally of the day off a feed by junior defender Julie Gysels (Boom, Belgium).

The score remained tied for nearly the remainder of the game, until the home squad was awarded a penalty shot with 29 ticks left on the scoreboard. Zelkovsky sunk the game-winner and time ran out soon after securing the win for the Pioneers.

LIU Post held an edge in shots at 13-6, including a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.  The Pioneers also were awarded eight penalty corners, while the Panthers took just two.

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Vellis (Wayne, N.J.) made one save in the contest.

On Saturday (Sept. 23), the Pioneers return to action as they hit the road for the first time this season when they make the trip to Waltham, Mass. LIU Post will face-off with Bentley for an 11 a.m. start.
