BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Junior forward
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) netted a hat trick, leading the ninth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team to a 5-1 victory in its Northeast-10 Conference opener against Saint Michael's on Sunday morning.
Senior midfielder
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) got the scoring started for the Pioneers (4-0, 1-0 NE10) as she sent home a feed from sophomore midfielder
Taylor Brodsky (Miller Place, N.Y.) in the eighth minute. Three minutes later, Brodsky inserted a penalty corner to junior defender
Julie Gysels (Boom, Belgium) at the top of the circle who, in turn, was able to find the back of the cage to give the green and gold a 2-0 advantage.
The Purple Knights (2-3, 0-1 NE10) cut the lead in half when they converted on a penalty corner in the 29th minute, but the remainder of the game became the Miller show as she tallied the final three markers to put the contest out of reach for the visitors.
LIU Post outshot Saint Michael's 20-1, including 12-1 on goal. The Pioneers also held a 10-2 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 20) when they host Adelphi for a 4 p.m. tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
