CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, senior
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the East Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Williams posted a fine second-place finish among all Division I, II and III competitors at the Fordham Fiasco held at Van Cortlandt Park. The senior led the 5,000-meter event for the first 2.75 miles, only to be corralled by Lisa Fajardo of Manhattan College, who drew clear in the final stages of the race. The Pioneer held off Princeton's Madison Offstein for second, while breaking her own school record for the VCP course (18:34.21) by over 20 seconds.
Williams and the Pioneer cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16 at neighboring New York Institute of Technology for the NYIT Invitational.
