MANSFIELD, Mass. - After throwing for over 400 yards Saturday, LIU Post graduate quarterback
Yianni Gavalas (Manhasset, N.Y.) was tabbed as the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Gavalas led the Pioneers to a 35-34 victory, their first win at New Haven since October 12, 2002. The Manhasset native finished the contest 41-for-54 for an astounding 405 yards and four touchdowns without tossing a pick. His long pass of the day came on a third down-and-four at the Pioneer 34 yard-line when he linked up with senior wide receiver
Michael Richardson (West Babylon, N.Y.) for a 34-yard completion giving the green and gold the first down.
After two weeks of play, Gavalas leads the NE-10 with a 73.7 completion percentage and a 183.4 efficiency rating. He is also tied for the lead with eight touchdowns, and ranks second in yards (678), yards per game (339), and yards per attempt (8.9).
Gavalas and the Pioneers return to action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they host Stonehill for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
