DANBURY, Conn. (May 24, 2017) - After completing one of the most illustrious seasons in program history, junior outfielder
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) of the LIU Post baseball team was tabbed as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Player of the Year on Wednesday.
In 52 games, Andreoli, the 2017 East Coast Conference Player of the Year, had a team-leading .346 average with five home runs and 44 RBIs. He also totaled the second-most hits (73) and doubles (15) in the league and ranked in the Top-10 in the ECC in 10 other statistical categories.
Furthermore, Andreoli, who was named to the All-ECAC Team, racked up 22 multi-hit games this season, including the team's first five-hit performance since 2009 in a 10-2 win over Queens on Apr. 17.
Meanwhile, four other Pioneers earned All-ECAC praise, as well. They were senior catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.), senior outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) and senior pitchers
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) and
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.).
Behind the plate, Asbaty threw out a league-best 19 runners attempting to steal. Additionally, he batted .257 on the year with seven home runs and 24 RBIs, en route to receiving All-ECC first-team distinction.
Daley started 48 contests as the team's primary left-fielder and hit .276 with four homers and 26 RBIs. In the ECC Championship game at Molloy, he went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs, as the green and gold won their first conference title since 2010.
Jagiello was one of the premier closers in Division II this year. He led the ECC and ranked eighth in the country with a school-record 12 saves, surpassing
Anthony Rinaldi's former mark of 8 in 2007.
In addition, Jagiello allowed no more than one earned run in any of his 19 appearances and struck out multiple batters in 13 of his 14 save opportunities.
Lastly, DeCarli made 13 starts on the hill for the Pioneers, compiling a league-best-tying 9-1 record. His nine victories tied him with former standouts
Jim McCauley (1987)
and
Jeff Albert (1976)
for the team's single-season record.
Furthermore, DeCarli had an impressive 2.22 earned-run average and 78 strikeouts this season and limited opposing hitters to a stingy .238 batting average against.
