Fortin Tabbed as ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year

DANBURY, Conn. (May 18, 2017) - On Thursday, LIU Post softball freshman outfielder Abbey Fortin (Langley, British Columbia, Canada) was selected as the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Rookie of the Year.

It is Fortin's second Rookie of the Year selection, after earning the same award from the East Coast Conference last month. She is also the second Pioneer (Julia Seader) in as many years to receive the honor.

Fortin, who garnered All-ECAC Honorable Mention accolades, had a stellar debut season for the Pioneers. She started in all 53 games in 2017, boasting a .257 average with a league-leading 13 home runs and 29 RBIs.

Fortin also had the second-most hits (44) and runs scored (36) on the team, while adding six doubles and carrying a .520 slugging percentage.
