Women's Lacrosse to Retire No. 11 at Halftime on Sunday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2017) - This Sunday, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team will pay tribute to two of its most decorated players in program history by retiring their jersey in a halftime ceremony at its 12 p.m. game against Roberts Wesleyan College.

Former standouts and four-time All-Americans Trish Moran-Bonagura and Jackie Sileo, both of whom wore No. 11 as a Pioneer, will be in attendance to watch their uniform number be retired at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

"We retire a player's jersey to honor not just their exemplary individual performance, but the entire breadth of their athletic career and their effect on all those around them," said Head Coach Meghan McNamara.

McNamara also added: "Trish and Jackie have left a lasting impact on the sport of lacrosse and helped to create the mold that would define the ideal student-athlete in collegiate athletics."

Moran-Bonagura, a 2013 inductee to the LIU Post Athletic Hall of Fame, originally set the program record for career scoring with 346 points (216 goals, 130 assists) from 2001-04.

She was twice crowned as the national statistical champion for points per game and led the Pioneers to their first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship in 2001.

Meanwhile, Sileo will also be remembered as one of the premier players at her position in the annals of NCAA women's lacrosse history.

In four seasons with the green and gold, she tallied 195 goals (14 game-winners) and 369 assists for a program-best 564 points. Her career point and assist totals rank No. 1 all-time in NCAA history, spanning all three divisions (I, II, III).

In addition, Sileo, a two-time NCAA Division II National Champion, was a three-time East Coast Conference Player of the Year and IWLCA Attacker of the Year, and a finalist for Honda Division II Athlete of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year.
