BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2017) - The LIU Post men's lacrosse team closed out the 2017 regular season Saturday with a 10-5 victory against Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Leading 3-2 after one period of play, the Pioneers (8-7, 5-3 ECC) tallied three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead into the half.
Freshman midfielder
Nick Grassa (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored at even strength just 16 seconds into the quarter. Fellow freshman midfielder
Austin Guerrina (Longwood, Fla.), who recorded a game-high four points (3 G, 1 A) in the win, added an unassisted tally.
Then, in the fourth quarter, LIU Post continued to lead by a four-goal margin, until junior midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) assisted on a pair of late goals to seal the victory for the hosts.
Sophomore midfielder
Michael Licata (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and junior attackman
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) found the back of the cage only 3:38 apart in the spurt.
Licata finished with three goals in the win. Trasacco netted a pair of tallies and earned four ground balls. Freshman attackman/midfielder
Travis Ventura (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) contributed a goal, as well.
Junior defenseman
Ryan Baker (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scooped up three ground balls and led all players with four caused turnovers.
Senior midfielder
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) won 7-of-10 (70.0 percent) faceoffs, while sophomore midfielder
Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) was victorious on 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) draws.
Between the pipes, senior goaltender
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) made four saves for the Pioneers. Senior cageminder Keith Keehn (Penfield, N.Y.) stopped 15 shots for the Redhawks (4-11, 1-7 ECC).
The green and gold dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Roberts Wesleyan by a 30-15 count and winning 30 ground balls to the Redhawks' 15. They were also 12-of-15 (80.0 percent) on clears in the contest.

John Jez and his LIU Post squad have clinched the No. 4 seed in next week's East Coast Conference Championship. They will face top-seeded and No. 7/8 New York Institute of Technology in a semifinal match-up on Wednesday (May 3) at 3:30 p.m. in Old Westbury.
