Men's Lacrosse Drops 9-8 Overtime Heartbreaker to No. 7 NYIT

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 1, 2017) - On Saturday, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team came back from a 7-3 deficit to force overtime, but lost an eventual 9-8 decision to No. 7 New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Trailing 8-6 late in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers (5-5, 2-2 ECC) got unassisted goals from junior midfielder 
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder 
Dan Foley (Carmel, N.Y.) in the final minute of regulation to tie the score and send the game into extra time.
However, the Bears (7-1, 4-0 ECC) won the opening faceoff of overtime and called timeout to draw up a potential game-winning play.
Nearly a minute after the re-start, senior midfielder Will Kistinger (Bohemia, N.Y.) fired a shot past senior goaltender 
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) to earn the victory for NYIT.
Earlier in the contest, the Pioneers rallied from a 7-3 hole to close the gap to a one-goal game at the 5:41 mark of the fourth quarter.
Sophomore attackman/midfielder 
Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) and Foley tallied back-to-back man-up goals for the green and gold in the comeback. Freshman midfielder 
Austin Guerrina (Longwood, Fla.) added his third tally of the day to make it a 7-6 game.
Harned collected two goals and an assist for three points in the effort. Foley notched a pair of goals. Junior attackman 
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) dished out an assist.
Senior defenseman 
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.) scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Junior defenseman 
Ryan Baker (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) forced a pair of turnovers, as well. Junior midfielder 
Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) earned two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Senior midfielder 
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) was s stellar 14-of-20 (70.0 percent) on faceoffs and had eight ground balls for LIU Post, which also converted 20-of-22 clears (90.9 percent) in the game.
Between the pipes, Liantonio made six saves for the Pioneers. Fellow senior cageminder Alex Seltzer (Plainview, N.Y.) stopped nine shots for the Bears.

John Jez and his LIU Post squad now open up a four-game road trip on Wednesday, Apr. 12 in Dobbs Ferry at ECC rival Mercy College. The opening faceoff is slated for 4 p.m.
