PERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 6, 2017) - The LIU Post men's lacrosse team has climbed to No. 16 in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Poll, released Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers are coming off a decisive 11-4 win versus Molloy in their 2017 East Coast Conference opener on Saturday (Mar. 4) at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. Junior attackman
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) led all players with five points (2 G, 3 A) in the effort. Sophomore attackman/midfielder
Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) added four points, off three goals and an assist.
Between the pipes, senior goaltender
Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) turned aside a game- and season-high-tying 11 shots. That matched his 11-save performance against No. 3 Merrimack on Feb. 18.
Meanwhile, sophomore midfielder
Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) was dominant on faceoffs, winning 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) draws.
The green and gold also ascended to No. 17 in Monday's Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division II Poll. The move was a three-spot jump from last week's No. 20 ranking.
Head Coach
John Jez and his LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Mar. 11), when they host ECC rival Chestnut Hill College at 11 a.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.
