Liantonio Named ECC Defensive Player of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 6, 2017) - After an 11-save performance on Saturday, LIU Post men's lacrosse senior goalie Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) received the nod as the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Liantonio, who earned his first weekly honor as a Pioneer, stopped a game-high 11 shots in an 11-4 win over then-No. 20 Molloy. His 11 saves also matched a season-best outing against No. 3 Merrimack on Feb. 18.

In 2017, Liantonio currently owns a 3-3 record with 45 saves and a 8.80 goals-against average. His three wins and 8.80 GAA rank third-best amongst the league's goaltenders, while his 45 stops are fourth-most in the ECC.

Liantonio and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Mar. 11), when they host Chestnut Hill College in an ECC tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville. The opening faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
