ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 22, 2017) - On Wednesday, the No. 4/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team earned a 17-9 victory against Molloy College in East Coast Conference action at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
The Pioneers (4-1, 1-0 ECC) got out to a fast start, opening the contest on a 7-1 run.
Senior attacker
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) tallied three goals in the streak. Fellow senior attacker
Brianna LeCompte (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and sophomore midfielder
Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) netted two goals apiece.
The Lions (5-3, 0-2 ECC) fought back though and sliced the deficit to a three-goal game (7-4) at the half.
Then, in the latter session, Molloy closed the gap to 9-7, but LIU Post answered with an 8-1 run to pull away for the win. Freshman midfielder
Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) had three goals in the stretch, while Bird added a pair of unassisted tallies.
Bird (6 G) and Mallery (5 G) combined for 11 of the team's 17 goals in the effort. Bird also won three draws and caused two turnovers. Mallery scooped up a game-high eight draw controls.
McKinney finished with three goals on five shots on net. Freshman midfielder
Kendall Purdy (Lake Worth, Fla.) pitched in two draws, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Between the pipes, junior goaltender
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made six saves for the Pioneers. Sophomore cageminder Alyssa Chetti (West Babylon, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots for the Lions.
For the contest, LIU Post owned a 34-20 advantage in shots, a 10-7 differential in ground balls and an 18-9 edge in draw controls. The Pioneers were 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) on clears and 3-of-5 (60.0 percent) on free-position shots, as well.
