BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2017) - Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) each scored in double figures Wednesday evening to lift the LIU Post women's basketball team past University of the District of Columbia, 72-53, in an East Coast Conference clash at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Moore scored a team-high 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting and earned nine rebounds in the victory. Patterson amassed 17 points and 21 rebounds for a double-double. Patterson's 20 rebounds were the most by a Pioneer since the 2014-15 season.
Leading 18-17 nearly two minutes into the second quarter, the Pioneers (11-14, 7-8 ECC) went on a 14-4 run in a four-minute span to widen the gap to 32-21 at the 4:23 mark. Moore registered nine points in the burst, while Patterson added three points. Senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) ignited the streak with a lay-up.
The green and gold eventually brought a commanding 40-26 advantage into the intermission, after Patterson converted a three-point play with 36 seconds left in the opening half.
During the latter 20 minutes of play, the Firebirds (2-23, 1-14 ECC) cut the deficit to an eight-point game (52-44) in the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers responded quickly to thwart a comeback attempt.
Senior guard
