Marshfield, Mass| The National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) coaches announced the league's All-American honorees and amongst the winners was junior Kelsey Silver.
In its inaugural NCAA season, Silver becomes the program's first All-American. In total, 43 student athletes were honored as First Team All Americans with at least one player hailing from each of the 17 NIRA member institutions. An additional seven players were recognized as Honorable Mention selections.
Silver's game-defining moment came in a 17-17 tie against Molloy earlier this year. Down 15 - 10 with just 20 seconds left, Silver eyed a gap in the defense and with a deft stiff arm, she sliced through two tacklers and then out ran the Lions defense with a 50-yard sprint for the try line for her second try of the game.
"While many players on the rugby team stepped up during the team's inaugural season in NCAA competition, it was the speed and skills of Kelsey Silver who gave the team the most confidence and the belief to win the toughest of games against all the odds," stated head coach
John Royal.
