Box Score Written by Joshua Soto (LIU Post Media Relations)
Easton, Mass. – The LIU Post women's volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over non-conference opponent Stonehill College inside Merkert Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
Victory in the five-set thriller sees the Pioneers, who have won 14 of their last 15 matches, improve to 23-4 on the year as the Skyhawks slip to 9-12.
Despite falling in the first set by the score of 25-22, LIU Post jumped ahead of the Skyhawks 15-5 early in the second set. The hosts would rally for four-straight points to pull within seven (24-17) but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers took the 25-17 second-set win.
The Pioneers opened the third set with a 6-0 run and would lead by as many as seven points (16-9) before taking the 25-19 third-set victory.
Failing to wrap up the match in the fourth set, LIU Post, up 9-3 in the fifth, fell victim to a 9-2 run by the Skyhawks and trailed by one (12-11).
A Stonehill attack error gave the visitors life and paved the way for
Danielle Valenza, who put LIU Post up 17-16, with a service ace. The Pioneers sealed the victory courtesy of a bad set by the Skyhawks that gave LIU Post the 18-16 fifth-set victory.
LIU Post offense was powered by
Danielle Valenza and
Rachel Londot who put down 17 and 13 kills, respectively.
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor dished out a team-high 23 assists and Londot contributed with a team-best 23 digs in the contest.
The Pioneers will travel to take on Bentley University on Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m. Live video and stats will be available
