Brookville, N.Y. – Senior Lukas Ostermann recorded the first hat trick of his LIU Post career as the LIU Post men's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory over ECC rival NYIT (8-8-1, 4-4 ECC) at Pioneer Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Pioneers –unbeaten in conference –improve to 13-0-2 on the year and 7-0-1 in conference play. Now the only unbeaten team in conference play, LIU Post clinches the ECC Regular Season Title and will host the ECC Men's Soccer Championship on Oct. 31 and Nov. 3.
Ostermann opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he finished off a cross from Harry Pearse, before NYIT's Simon-Peter Omooba capitalized on a misplay by the Pioneer defense to score the equalizer at the 17-minute mark.
In the 18th minute the Pioneers answered back when he one-touched a Johann Kristjansson cross to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
Ostermann extended the Pioneers' lead to two (3-1) in the 66th minute with completing the hat trick, and Pearse capped off the evening's scoring in the 82nd minute when he received the cross from Vittorio Argeri and one-touched it into the goal.
Oliver Hessner Hansen picked up the win for the Pioneers in a three-save effort. NYIT's Andrew Pereira recorded only one save in the contest.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, October 28 when they travel to take on the University of Bridgeport for a 3:00 p.m ECC tilt. Follow the action with live stats here.
