BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - A penalty kick goal by junior
Charlie Ledula (London, England) in the 78th minute was the deciding factor in the seventh-ranked LIU Post men's soccer 2-1 victory over East Coast Conference rival Molloy on Monday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Lions (3-7, 2-2 ECC) opened the scoring five-and-one-half minutes into the contest as Dan Massey took a pass from Anthony Cestaro at the top of the box and turned around to send a strike past the diving
Oliver Hessner Hansen (Vaerloese, Denmark) in goal.
That would prove to be all the scoring for the visitors as the green and gold kept them off the scoreboard for the remaining 84:30 minutes of action.
Junior midfielder
Vittorio Argeri (Genoa, Italy) benefited from a give-and-go with graduate forward
Lukas Ostermann (Saterland, Germany) in the 13th minute to tie the game.
Ledula's penalty kick score at the 77:16 mark sealed the Pioneers (8-0-1, 3-0 ECC) win.
Hessner Hansen turned aside four of the five shots he faced between the pipes, while Raul Bonilla made six saves for the Lions.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Oct. 7) when they travel to Flushing, N.Y. to take on Queens for a 3 p.m. conference matchup.
