YAPHANK, N.Y. - The LIU Post equestrian team started off the year strong at Good Sheppard Farm on Saturday, winning overall high point team with a total of 36 points.
The team started off the day strong in Open with
Mallory Slack earning second place over fences, and on the flat captains
Heather Grova and
Jessica Sulkers were the top two finishers, respectively.
Mackenzie Ashe kicked off her first collegiate show earning first in both her classes in intermediate, and earning her high point rider of the day. Respectively, captain,
Alex Daskam, earned first- and second-place in her classes resulting in reserve high point rider of the day and qualifying herself individually for regionals in novice fences.
Nicole Palmer also started her collegiate career off strong with first- and third-best finishes in her intermediate classes.
Jenna Skaferowsky earned third place in intermediate fences.
Katherine Galvin and
Nicolette Signorelli earned individual regional spots in the novice flat after Galvin earned fifth and Signorelli was the top finisher.
Gianna Perry excelled in her first novice class as the best on the flat.
Hedda Walltott and
Nicole Sinram both secured third-place finishes in novice flat. Freshman,
Brianna Valente earned two-consecutive second-place finishes to kick off her IHSA career.
To finish the day,
Alyssa Rehm secured a first-place finish in walk/trot/canter alongside Qing Wang finishing in first for walk/trot.
Next up for the Pioneers is a show at Olde Towne Equestrian center hosted by Stonybrook University in Selden, N.Y. on Sunday, Oct. 15.
