Men's Basketball Dealt 100-76 Loss at Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2017) - Senior guard Jemal Mosley (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored a game- and season-high 28 points Saturday, but it wasn't enough, as the LIU Post men's basketball team fell to Queens College, 100-76, in East Coast Conference action at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

Mosley shot 10-of-16 from the field in the loss, including 4-of-5 from downtown. Freshman forward Richard Altenord (Dix Hills, N.Y.) poured in 12 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Freshman guard Jared Rivers (Westbury, N.Y.) added 10 points. Junior guard Kyle McLeggan (Jersey City, N.J.) contributed eight points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Leading 14-9 with just under 14 minutes left in the first half, the Knights (8-8, 5-4 ECC) went on an 11-3 run in a span of 2:22 to widen their advantage to 25-12 at the 11:31 mark. Senior guard Kyheim Chaplin (Freeport, N.Y.) and junior guards Tyrone Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Simon Green (Harlem, N.Y.) each drained a three in the burst.

Queens, which shot 54.8 percent (34-of-62) from the floor and 64.0 percent (16-of-25) from deep in the game, eventually built as much as a 28-point cushion (47-19) in the opening 20 minutes of play.

For the contest, LIU Post shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from field-goal range and 64.0 percent (16-of-25) at the foul line. The Pioneers also out-rebounded the Knights by a 38-33 count.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and his LIU Post squad return to the hardwood Wednesday (Jan. 18), when they host Molloy College in an ECC tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center at 7:30 p.m. in Brookville.
