WALTHAM, Mass. (Sept. 3, 2016) - The LIU Post field hockey team got its 2016 season off on the right foot Saturday, shutting out Bentley University, 3-0, at Bentley Field in Waltham.

The Pioneers (1-0) limited the Falcons (1-1) to only six shots in the contest, while also converting three goals on 10 shot attempts.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) got the scoring started for LIU Post in the 16th minute, when she put back her own rebound to stake the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead.

Then, in the 28th minute, junior forward Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) fired a shot from eight yards out into the cage, widening LIU Post's advantage to 2-0.

Senior midfielder Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.) capped things off for the green and gold in the 62nd minute, after converting a penalty stroke to make it a three-goal game.

Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) had five saves in the effort. Her counterparts, Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt.) and Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J.), combined to turn aside five shots for Bentley.

Head Coach Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Sept. 7), when they welcome in third-ranked West Chester University of Pennsylvania for their 2016 home opener at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 4 p.m.
