BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2016) - Freshman midfielder
Arantxa Rosainz Caloca (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored a pair of goals Thursday to propel the No. 1 LIU Post field hockey team to a 4-1 win versus Pace University in a non-conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The first of Rosainz Caloca's two tallies came in the 10th minute to put the Pioneers (7-0) on the board. After sophomore forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) was fouled inside the circle, the green and gold were awarded a penalty stroke. Rosainz Caloca then converted on the attempt to give the hosts the early edge.
LIU Post eventually took a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Pace (4-4) had a chance to tie the score before the break. With 2:34 to go, sophomore forward Halley Rose (Dauphin, Pa.) earned a penalty stroke opportunity. However, Rose's shot was turned aside by senior goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.), keeping the Pioneers in front.
In the second half, LIU Post tallied its second goal of the contest via penalty stroke to extend its lead. This time, senior midfielder
Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.) found the back of the cage just over five minutes into the period to make it a 2-0 game.
Miller and Rosainz Caloca followed with goals in a seven-minute span to close out the scoring. Miller put back a rebound off a blocked shot from Mocerino in the 47th minute, while Rosainz Caloca lifted a shot into the top-left corner of the cage in the 55th minute.
Between the pipes, Parks and junior netminder
Savanah Cummings (Midlothian, Va.) combined to make five saves for the Pioneers. Junior goalie Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, Conn.) stopped eight shots for the Setters.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Oct. 1), when they host No. 7 Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
