BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2016) - On Wednesday, the No. 2 LIU Post field hockey team cruised to a 3-1 win versus Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
In the first half, the Pioneers (5-0, 2-0 NE-10) held the Greyhounds (3-3, 1-1 NE-10) without a shot, and tallied two goals in the process.
Freshman midfielder
Arantxa Rosainz Caloca (Guadalajara, Mexico) got the scoring started in the ninth minute, when she ripped a shot underneath the crossbar for her first collegiate goal, giving LIU Post a 1-0 advantage.
Then, in the 28th minute, senior midfielder
Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.) doubled the Pioneers' lead. After collecting a pass from
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Mocerino turned and pivoted with the ball, and lined a shot inside the left post to make it a 2-0 game.
The green and gold kept up the offensive intensity in the latter 35 minutes of play. Senior forward/midfielder
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) put a one-timer past Assumption's Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass.) in the 53rd minute on an odd-man rush, widening the gap to 3-0.
The Pioneers outshot the Greyhounds in the contest by an overwhelming 17-3 count. They also had a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
Between the pipes, senior goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made two saves for LIU Post. Bodzinski recorded 13 stops for Assumption.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Sept. 24), when they travel to Easton, Mass. for a noon matinee at NE-10 rival and fifth-ranked Stonehill College.
