BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2016) - Sophomore forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) tallied the game-winning goal in the 79th minute to propel the LIU Post women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Queens College in East Coast Conference action at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The goal came off a rebound from a 35-yard shot by junior back
Alexandra Dencker (Newburgh, N.Y.). Huntzinger then settled the ball and tapped it into the net to put the Pioneers (2-2-1, 1-1 ECC) in front with 11:02 remaining.
LIU Post dominated play in the second half, outshooting Queens (1-4, 0-1 ECC), 11-2, in the latter 45 minutes. The Pioneers owned a commanding 18-6 advantage in shots for the match.
In the opening half, freshman midfielder
Veronica Saager (East Islip, N.Y.) had a late opportunity to cash in for the game's first goal. However, Queens' junior keeper Nicole Cranny (Abbeyleix, Ireland) made the key save in a one-on-one situation to keep the contest scoreless.
Between the pipes, LIU Post sophomore goalie
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) turned aside all four shots she faced for her second shutout of 2016. Cranny made eight saves for the Knights.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to the pitch Wednesday (Sept. 21), when they host Wilmington University in a non-conference showdown at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park.
