BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 16, 2016) - The 22nd-ranked LIU Post softball team took a pair of games from East Coast Conference nemesis Queens College on Saturday, winning by scores of 10-3 and 5-1 at the LIU Post Softball Complex.

Game #1: LIU Post 10, Queens 3
Leading 1-0 through two innings, the Pioneers broke the game open with an eight-run third. Freshman catcher Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) provided the big hit of the frame; a two-out, two-RBI double.

Earlier in the inning, junior outfielder Jaclyn Hahn (Bayport, N.Y.), junior infielder Kayla McCoy (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman first baseman Ashley Melendez (Levittown, N.Y.) all had RBI singles.

Seader capped off the scoring for LIU Post in the bottom of the sixth, crushing a lead-off opposite-field solo homer to left-center field. That widened the green and gold's advantage to 10-3.

Junior pitcher Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) earned the win in the decision, tossing seven innings of five-hit, three-run, three-walk, seven-strikeout ball.

Game #2: LIU Post 5, Queens 1
Despite being retired in order for the first three innings, the Pioneers (26-7-1, 15-1 ECC) pushed across three runs in the fourth to draw first blood.

Senior third baseman Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.) got the scoring started with an RBI single. Senior designated player Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) and McCoy both drove in runs, as well.

LIU Post tacked on another pair of runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 5-0. Seader plated sophomore pinch-runner Marisa San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) after hitting into a one-out fielder's choice, while Palmeri sacrificed home freshman shortstop Leah Mele (Coram, N.Y.) on a pop-up to Queens (11-20, 8-14 ECC) second baseman Victoria Carlo (Miller Place, N.Y.).

Freshman pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) shut the door on the Knights, pitching a complete-game three-hitter with two walks and three strikeouts.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and the Pioneers are right back at it Sunday (Apr. 17), when they host New York Institute of Technology in a battle between the first- and second-place teams in the ECC at the LIU Post Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
