Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team dropped a 57-53 decision to University of District of Columbia in East Coast Conference play at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers finish the 2015-16 season at 5-23, including a 5-15 record in ECC contests.
In what was a tightly contested game throughout, the Pioneers and Firebirds (20-8, 15-5 ECC) played to a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, a jumper by UDC's Amber Bryson with 2:15 on the clock gave the Firebirds a 25-18 lead at halftime.
Then, with time winding down in the third, sophomore guard
Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit a pair of free throws, making it a one-point game (38-37) entering the fourth.
Midway through the final quarter, senior forward
Kalinka DeRoche (New Haven, Conn.) hit a lay-up, giving the Pioneers a 43-41 lead. The Firebirds responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good.
Messam finished with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Junior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
