Men's Basketball Drops 76-65 Decision at Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2016) - The LIU Post men's basketball team lost by a 76-65 count to Queens College in East Coast Conference action Saturday at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

In the first half, the Pioneers (14-10, 9-7 ECC) trailed 22-9 with less than eight minutes to go, until an 8-0 spurt closed the gap to a five-point game (22-17) at the 4:18 mark.

Red-shirt sophomore guard Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) got it started with a lay-up. Senior guard Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) added a three-pointer.

LIU Post eventually trailed 30-25 at the intermission. Burns led all visitor scorers in the opening 20 minutes with eight points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field.

Trailing 42-34 nearly five minutes into the latter session, the Pioneers used another 8-0 run to even the score (42-42) with 13:54 left. Junior forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) had the first eight points of the burst, while Burns tied the game with a jumper in the paint.

However, Queens (8-12, 6-9 ECC) responded with an 11-3 spurt in 2:56 to re-gain the lead at 53-45. The Knights soon pulled away from the Pioneers, widening the gap to as many as 12 points (65-53).

Queens got most of its contributions from its reserve players on the afternoon, amassing nearly half of its points (36) off the bench.

Burns scored a team-high 13 points in the losing effort. He also collected five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Bibens pitched in 12 points, five rebounds and two assists. Dotson poured in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior guard Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) finished with 10 points, four rebounds and one steal.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and his LIU Post squad return to the hardwood on Tuesday (Feb. 16), when they host ECC rival New York Institute of Technology at 7:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
