BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post women's basketball team suffered a 74-68 loss to East Coast Conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Down 15-10 late in the first quarter, the Pioneers (4-5, 2-1 ECC) went on a 10-0 run to close out the period with a 20-15 advantage. Senior guard Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) and freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) each buried a three-pointer in the streak.

The green and gold eventually built as much as an eight-point lead (30-22) with 6:16 left in the second quarter, but trailed 39-38 at the intermission.

In the opening 20 minutes of play, LIU Post shot 42.8 percent (12-of-28) from the field, 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from beyond the arc and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the foul line.

During the latter half, the Pioneers trailed 57-52 in the final minute of the third quarter, until a 9-2 burst gave the hosts a slight 61-59 edge with 7:17 remaining in regulation. Garrett sparked the comeback with a trey. Sophomore guard Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added back-to-back lay-ups, including the go-ahead basket.

Garrett, who scored 12 points in 23 minutes off the bench, later drained another trifecta to break a 61-61 tie at the midway point of the fourth quarter.

However, Garrett's three-pointer was the last field goal of the contest for LIU Post, which outrebounded St. Thomas Aquinas (7-2, 3-0 ECC) by an overwhelming 44-23 count in the game.

Moore led all players with 17 points. Junior guard Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and freshman guard Dominique Williams (Queens Village, N.Y.) poured in eight points apiece. N. Williams also grabbed eight rebounds and swiped five steals, while D. Williams collected five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added six points and nine rebounds.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action next Wednesday (Dec. 14), when they face Mercy College in an ECC showdown at Westchester Community College in Valhalla. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
