BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 31, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team netted a program-record-tying 12 three-pointers to pull away from Stonehill College, 82-70, in non-conference action at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers (6-7), who buried double-digit treys in a single game for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign, last achieved the feat on Jan. 20, 2010 in a 94-89 double-overtime win at Dowling.
Senior guards
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) each scored a game-high-tying 21 points in the win. Olsen also swiped six steals. Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) amassed 17 points and seven rebounds.
Down 52-51 with under a minute to go in the third period, the hosts went on a 14-5 run to grab a 66-57 advantage at the 5:41 mark of the fourth quarter. Garrett nailed three trifectas in the burst. Moore added back-to-back lay-ups. Red-shirt freshman guard
Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) put the green and gold in front for good with a jumper.
The Pioneers eventually stretched their lead to double digits down the stretch, as Garrett and Olsen combined to make 9-of-10 tries from the foul line to shut the door on the Skyhawks (5-6).
For the contest, LIU Post shot 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from downtown. The Pioneers were a spectacular 9-of-14 (64.2 percent) on three-point attempts in the second half of play.
Francis contributed five points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the effort. Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) accumulated five points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
