BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 3, 2016) - The LIU Post women's basketball team lost a close 61-55 decision to American International College Saturday in a non-conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Senior guard Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) scored a game-high 19 points in 28 minutes off the bench. Fellow senior guard Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) had 11 points and six rebounds.

Down 39-29 late in the third quarter, the Pioneers (4-4) went on a 15-3 run to grab a 44-42 lead at the 7:56 mark of the fourth quarter. Garrett, Olsen and sophomore guard Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each drilled a trey in the burst, while Moore provided the go-ahead lay-up.

The Yellow Jackets (5-3) responded quickly, as a pair of free throws by Dana Watts (Rochester, N.Y.) tied the score at 44-all with 6:24 remaining.

Later in the period, the two teams remained tied (51-51), until a put-back lay-up from Imani Stepney (Willingboro, N.J.) with 2:29 left catapulted American International in front for good.

LIU Post, which erased as much as an 11-point deficit in the contest, was held without a field goal for the final three minutes of regulation to silence its comeback effort.

The Pioneers shot 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc in the loss. Garrett accounted for five of the nine three-pointers, four of which occurred in the second half of play.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad wrap up their season-opening nine-game homestand Wednesday (Dec. 7), when they face East Coast Conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College at 5 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
