Women's Basketball Dealt 67-59 Loss at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (Dec. 29, 2016) - The LIU Post women's basketball team had a late comeback attempt fall short Thursday in a 67-59 loss to Assumption College at Laska Gymnasium.
Trailing 64-38 with over five minutes left in regulation, the Pioneers (5-7), who shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field in the fourth quarter, went on a 21-2 run to close the gap to 66-59 in the final minute.
Senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) knocked down five three-pointers in the streak. She scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting in 29 minutes off the bench in the contest.
Freshman guard
Dominique Williams (Queens Village, N.Y.) and freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) ignited the rally with back-to-back lay-ups.
That was as close as the green and gold came though to completing the comeback, as Assumption (8-3) held on for the eight-point victory.
For the game, LIU Post shot 22-of-55 (40.0 percent) from the field, 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) from downtown and a perfect 6-of-6 (100.0 percent) from the foul line.
Moore contributed 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the defeat. Freshman guard
Asia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) added nine points. Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed 13 rebounds, while pitching in four points and three steals. Senior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) totaled six points and four rebounds.

Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Dec. 31), when they face Stonehill College in a New Year's Eve matinee at 1:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.
