CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Dec. 20, 2016) - For the second time this year, LIU Post women's basketball freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Moore, who previously received the honor on Nov. 21, averaged a team-leading 17.5 points per game on 51.6 percent shooting (16-of-31) from the field in a pair of contests.
Moore led off the week last Wednesday (Dec. 14) with a game-high 23-point performance in a 78-64 win at Mercy. It was the third time this season that she eclipsed the 20-point mark and the ninth time that she reached double figures.
Then, on Sunday (Dec. 18), Moore collected 12 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals at No. 11 Bentley. Eight of her 12 points came in the first 20 minutes to send the Pioneers to 36-25 halftime lead on the Falcons.
Moore currently ranks second amongst ECC forwards in scoring at 17.5 points per game. She also places third in the league in blocks (17) and eighth in field goals made (62) and free-throw percentage (.792).
Moore and the Pioneers return to action next Thursday (Dec. 29), when they travel to Worcester, Mass. for a non-conference tilt at Assumption College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
