DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2016) - On Thursday, the LIU Post volleyball team closed out the road portion of its 2016 regular-season slate with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-14) win against East Coast Conference nemesis Mercy College at Victory Gymnasium.

The Pioneers (13-12, 6-6 ECC), who have now won 10 of their last 12 matches, hit at a .273 clip in the contest.

In the opening set, LIU Post jumped out to a commanding 13-4 advantage and never looked back. Junior outside/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) provided four kills in the run. Sophomore middle/right-side hitter Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) added two kills apiece.

The Pioneers eventually went on to a 25-17 victory, after Strange and freshman middle/right-side hitter Lea Brady (Woodbridge, Va.) teamed up for a block on Mercy's Andrea Velasco (Whittier, Calif.).

Leading 13-12 in the second set, the green and gold went on a 12-4 streak to take the set by a 25-17 count. Valenza, Londot and Strange each slammed down two kills in the outburst.

Sophomore outside/right-side hitter Navah Evans (Oakland, Calif.) and freshman setter Kassie Akouri-Tejedor (North Miami Beach, Fla.) both served aces to aid in the effort.

In the third set, LIU Post committed just one attack error in a 25-14 rout. Senior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) registered five kills to pace the Pioneers in the game.

Valenza finished with a team-high 10 kills and 18 digs for a double-double. McCullouch tallied nine kills on a .429 attack percentage. Londot had eight kills and four digs. Strange amassed seven kills, four blocks and two digs.

Head Ciach Amanda Ostapow and her LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Nov. 5), when they host Queens College in an ECC tilt at noon at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
