EASTON, Mass. (Nov. 20, 2016) - The No. 4 LIU Post field hockey team came up short Sunday in a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Shippensburg University in the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 in the final minutes of regulation, the Pioneers (16-4), who played the last 8:50 with an empty net, cut the deficit in half in the 66th minute.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) tallied her 21st goal of the year, after cleaning up a loose ball in front of the Red Raiders' (20-3) cage.

Then, in the final minute, Miller nearly scored the equalizer, but Shippensburg sophomore cageminder Ally Mooney (Spring City, Pa.) blockered the shot away to spoil the green and gold's comeback effort.

Between the pipes, senior goaltender Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made three saves for LIU Post in 61:10 of work. Mooney stopped one shot for Shippensburg.

"We poured our heart and souls out on the field today," said Pioneers' senior midfielder/defender Abi Sawyer (Wakefield, West Yorkshire). "We thought we had it today, but unfortunately it wasn't enough."

"We really thought we were going to do it today. We were right there," Head Coach Raenee Savin (Nesconset, N.Y.) stated. "Unfortunately, it won't be with our six seniors, but I am confident that LIU Post will be back."

This concludes the 2016 season for the Pioneers' field hockey team. For more information on LIU Post field hockey, please continue to visit LIUPostPioneers.com.
