BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2016) - Four different players scored in double figures Wednesday to lift the LIU Post women's basketball team to a 74-57 victory over Wilmington University in non-conference action at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) collected a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. She was 5-of-12 from field-goal range and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe in the win.
Leading 8-6 just over three minutes into the first quarter, the Pioneers (1-2) reeled off a 14-5 run in a span of 4:24 to widen the gap to 22-11 at the 2:24 mark. Moore and red-shirt freshman guard
Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) each had five points in the burst.
The green and gold eventually took a 15-point lead (42-27) into the break, after senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) knocked down a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the second quarter.
In the latter half, LIU Post did not let its foot off the gas pedal. An
Asia Turner (Philadelphia, Pa.) trifecta on the fast break expanded the Pioneers' cushion to 53-33 with 4:51 remaining in the third quarter.
The hosts forced 22 Wildcat turnovers in the contest and held them to 29.5 percent shooting (18-of-61) from the floor. Meanwhile, LIU Post shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the field and outrebounded Wilmington (0-3), 56-30.
Turner finished with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes off the bench. Francis added 11 points, six boards, three steals and two assists. Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
