Football Holds at No. 10 in Latest AFCA Division II Poll

WACO, Texas (Nov. 15, 2016) - For the third-straight week, the LIU Post football team has remained at No. 10 in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Top-25 Poll, released Monday.

The Pioneers, who are only one of seven remaining undefeated programs in Division II, captured the Northeast-10 Conference title last Saturday (Nov. 12) with a decisive 43-23 victory against Assumption.

Red-shirt sophomore running back Malik Pierre (Holbrook, N.Y.) carried the ball for a game-high 108 yards and two touchdowns in the contest. He also ran the opening second-half kickoff back for an 87-yard touchdown. As a result, Pierre was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the NE-10 Championship.

Meanwhile, the Pioneers surrendered just nine points on defense through three quarters of play. This season, LIU Post ranks third in the NE-10 and 15th in Division II in scoring defense (17.4 points allowed per game).

Northwest Missouri State stayed atop the poll, earning 750 points and 30 first-place votes. Grand Valley State, Shepherd, Sioux Falls and Harding all stood their ground to round out the Top-5.

Head Coach Bryan Collins and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Nov. 19), when they face Winston-Salem State University in an NCAA Division II first-round match-up at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. Kickoff is set for noon.
