Women's Fencing Jousts at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Nov. 13, 2016) - On Sunday, the LIU Post women's fencing team battled at the Vassar College Invitational at Walker Field House in Poughkeepsie.

The Pioneers (0-8) competed in three bouts, falling to Queens College (16-11), University of the Incarnate Word (18-6) and Vassar (24-3).

Senior Katie Niemir (Mineola, N.Y.) led the green and gold in sabre, posting a 5-4 record. Fellow senior Sophie Michaelides (Whitestone, N.Y.) went 2-1 against Queens and Incarnate Word, en route to a 4-5 showing.

In epee, junior Chantelle Duncan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) fenced to a 5-3 mark. Senior Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) compiled a 4-4 record in eight matches.

Head Coach Mike Corona and his LIU Post squad are back in action next Sunday (Nov. 20) at the Matt Lampell Hudson Valley Invitational, hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.
