Women's Basketball Loses to Pace in 2016-17 Opener, 74-58

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2016) - The LIU Post women's basketball team dropped a season-opening 74-58 decision Friday to Pace University in the ECC/NE-10 Challenge at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Senior guard Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) registered a team-high 16 points in 28 minutes off the bench. Sophomore forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) each poured in 12 points. Patterson and Moore also grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

Down 30-21 at the half, the Pioneers (0-1) opened the latter session on a 10-1 run in a span of 2:26 to trim the deficit to 33-31 at the 6:45 mark. Patterson scored the first six points of the burst. Moore capped it off with a lay-up.

However, the Setters (1-0) answered with a 14-5 streak to build their lead to 47-36 at the conclusion of the third quarter. Three different players went 2-for-2 from the stripe for Pace in the run.

The visitors pulled away from there, as the Setters eventually widened the gap to a 20-point margin (66-46) with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter.

The Pioneers shot 30.4 percent (21-of-69) from the floor in the loss. Sophomore guard Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) had eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman guard Dominique Williams (Queens Village, N.Y.) added four points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Nov. 12), when they battle Adelphi University in the ECC/NE-10 Challenge at 5 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
