BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2016) - The No. 21 LIU Post football team exploded for 42 first-half points Saturday in a 63-20 romp of Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Anselm College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
It didn't take long for the Pioneers (6-0, 5-0 NE-10) to get on the board. On the second play of the game, junior defensive lineman
Kevin Petit-Frere (Amityville, N.Y.) tipped a Yianni Gavalas (Manhasset, N.Y.) pass that fell in the lap of
Kenny Scotland (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.). Scotland then returned the interception nine yards to the end zone for the game's opening score.
Less than a minute after the pick, LIU Post got the ball back on an interception by freshman defensive back
Joshua Flowers (Mount Laurel, N.J.). Only two snaps later, red-shirt sophomore running back
Malik Pierre (Holbrook, N.Y.) rushed for a nine-yard touchdown, expanding the Pioneers' advantage to 14-0.
From there, the green and gold continued to utilize their ground game. Senior running back
David White (Bronx, N.Y.) tacked on a 15-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter to make it a 21-0 game.
In the second quarter, LIU Post continued to build its lead. Senior quarterback
Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) connected with red-shirt junior wide receiver
James Higgins (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) for a five-yard touchdown pass on the team's first full series of the period, which widened the gap to 35-7.
Two possessions later, Kidd orchestrated an 11-play, 71-yard drive that resulted in a four-yard strike from Kidd to Pierre. That sent the Pioneers into the locker room with a comfortable 42-14 cushion.
In the latter half, LIU Post kept up the offensive intensity, and scored 21 unanswered points to put the game away for good. Kidd hooked up with red-shirt junior wide receiver
Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.) and White for a respective six- and three-yard touchdown, while freshman running back
Tim Marinan (Longwood, Fla.) rushed for a 42-yard touchdown.
Kidd finished the contest 22-of-31 passing for 204 yards and four touchdowns. White carried the ball 14 times for 131 yards and a TD. Red-shirt senior wide receiver
Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) made eight receptions for 74 yards. Higgins added five catches for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Senior outside linebacker
Ryan Renfroe (Oakdale, N.Y.) and sophomore linebacker
Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) each made a team-high five tackles (four solo, one assist) in the win. Senior linebacker
Nate Feliz (Bronx, N.Y.) and Flowers both recorded four solo stops. Red-shirt sophomore defensive back
Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) and red-shirt junior defensive back
Michael Gregorovic (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had four tackles apiece, as well.
Head Coach
Bryan Collins and the Pioneers return to the gridiron next Saturday (Oct. 15), when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for a noon opening kickoff at NE-10 foe Southern Connecticut State University.
