No. 1 Field Hockey Loses 2-1 Heartbreaker to SNHU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2016) - On Friday, the No. 1 LIU Post field hockey team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Pioneers (8-2, 4-2 ECC) dominated the Penmen (6-7, 2-6 NE-10) in shots (24-6) and penalty corners (19-4), but lost on a last-second goal by SNHU's Alison Hildreth (Hampton, N.H.).
LIU Post got on the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute, when sophomore forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) put back a
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) rebound for her team-high 10th goal of the season.
However, the Penmen answered right before the half to even the game at 1-all. On just their second shot of the period, SNHU's Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) tapped a shot into an open cage with 3:12 left for the equalizer.
In the latter period, the visitors earned two penalty corners in the final seconds. After the initial attempt was staved off, Hildreth re-directed a shot past
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) on the second try for the game-winner.
Parks made one save in the effort for LIU Post. Sophomore goalie Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) turned aside 11 shots for Southern New Hampshire, 10 of which came in the first half.
