PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2016) - Sophomore forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 67th minute Wednesday to propel the LIU Post women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Philadelphia University in non-conference action at Ravenhill Field.
Nearly midway through the second half, Huntzinger chipped a 25-yard shot over the head of Rams' (3-5-1) junior goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa.) for the deciding tally.
The win is the Pioneers' (6-2-1) fourth in as many games. It is also the fourth contest that LIU Post has recorded a shutout in 2016, three of which have come on the current winning streak.
In addition to keeping their opposition off the scoreboard, the Pioneers held the Rams without a shot on target for 90 minutes.
LIU Post owned a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks in the match. Freshman midfielder
Medina Mulic (Ridgewood, N.Y.) led all players with four shots (three SOG) in the effort. Huntzinger added three shots.
Between the pipes, sophomore goalie
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) did not face a shot in her fourth career clean sheet for the Pioneers. Messner made six saves for Philadelphia.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 8), when they face Mercy College in an East Coast Conference clash in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. at noon.
