Volleyball Falters at Daemen, 3-0

AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2016) - The LIU Post volleyball team fell 3-0 (13-25, 26-28, 21-25) to Daemen College in an East Coast Conference match Sunday at Lumsden Gymnasium.
Following a 25-13 opening-set loss, the Pioneers (3-9, 0-3 ECC) suffered a 28-26 defeat to the Wildcats (9-6, 3-1 ECC) in a back-and-forth second game.
Down 6-2 early in the set, LIU Post capitalized on four Daemen attack errors to take a 7-6 lead. However, a pair of blocks by the hosts after 14 tied scores sent the Wildcats to a two-point victory.
In the third game, the Pioneers grabbed a 16-11 advantage on a kill by freshman setter
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor (North Miami Beach, Fla.).
Daemen rallied though and went in front 19-18, behind three consecutive kills from sophomore outside hitter Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y.).
The Wildcats eventually pulled away by scoring six of the set's final eight points, en route to a 25-21 win.

Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) had a team-high eight kills and served two aces in the loss. Senior middle hitter
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) put down six kills on a .312 hitting percentage. She also rejected four blocks. Junior outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) added five kills and seven digs.
Head Coach
Amanda Ostapow and the Pioneers return to action Tuesday (Oct. 4), when they face ECC rival New York Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. in Old Westbury.
