Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2016) - The No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team came out on the short end of a 4-3 overtime loss to Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Pioneers (8-3, 4-3 NE-10) tested the Owls (4-9, 2-6 NE-10) early and broke through for the game's opening goal in the eighth minute. Junior midfielder
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) cleaned up a loose ball off a scramble in front of the net to give the hosts a quick 1-0 edge.
LIU Post, which took a 1-0 advantage into the break, outshot Southern Connecticut by an overwhelming 14-4 count in the first 35 minutes of play. Freshman goalie Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) recorded nine of her game-high 16 saves in the opening half.
Nearly three minutes into the latter session, the green and gold expanded their lead. Sophomore forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) beat Craft on the short side, making it a 2-0 game.
Though the Owls subsequently rallied to tie the score, the Pioneers got redemption in the final minutes. Senior forward/midfielder
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) scored off a rebound to put LIU Post back in front with 5:08 remaining.
However, Southern Connecticut wasn't going away. Sophomore forward Kya O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn.) found the back of the cage as time expired in regulation, and senior midfielder/defender Vienna Pallisco (Sherman, Conn.) converted a penalty stroke in overtime to send the Owls to the victory.
