BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2016) - Junior forward Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) tallied the game-winning goal Saturday to send the No. 1 LIU Post field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against seventh-ranked Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference duel at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Pioneers (8-0, 4-0 NE-10) and Hawks (8-2, 3-1 NE-10) entered the contest tied atop the league standings.

LIU Post jumped out to the early lead in the 11th minute. On a penalty corner, junior defender Grace Ilias (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) backhanded an Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) rebound inside the right post to give the hosts a 1-0 cushion.

The Pioneers nearly had a two-goal advantage at the break, but Lopresti was denied an open cage by Hawks' junior midfielder Mia Vecchione (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the final two minutes of the opening period.

In the latter half, Saint Anselm quickly evened the score. Junior defender Erin Collins (Auburn, Mass.) put back a Vecchione shot in the 43rd minute, tying the game at 1-all.

The match would eventually need overtime to decide a winner. In the 77th minute, Zelkovsky settled a pass from Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) and fired a shot past senior goaltender Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) for the game-winner.

Senior goalie Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves in the effort for LIU Post, including a crucial stop on Michelle Lemelin (Chelsea, Maine) in the last two minutes of regulation to keep the score tied. Sears turned aside 11 shots for Saint Anselm.

Head Coach Raenee Savin and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 5), when they face NE-10 rival Adelphi University at 7 p.m. in Garden City.
